Slow Life - what is it?

You've probably found more than once that life on the run tastes bad. No wonder - after all, when you feel the constant pressure, you don't feel like enjoying the moment. And yet, everyday life is full of wonderful moments that are easy to miss. In order to notice and enjoy them, it is necessary to slow down and this is the idea behind the slow life philosophy.

To many people, slow life may be associated with inactivity and complete letting go. Nothing could be further from the truth! This philosophy does not imply giving up activities, ambitions or important goals. Its main aim is to calm the pace of life and enjoy it here and now. Without putting it off until an unspecified "later".

Stay in nature

We spend too much time locked inside four walls. Such 'isolation' has a negative impact on our mood and well-being. According to the slow life philosophy, we should try to free ourselves from excess stress and burdens in order to enjoy the moment and our surroundings. This idea also involves spending more time surrounded by nature and... loved ones!

Therefore, enjoy nature as much as you can and spend at least twice as much time outdoors, e.g:

  • in the park
  • garden
  • by the river or the sea
  • In a meadow
  • in the forest.
Capture beautiful moments

If you want to live a slow life and experience each day more intensively, try to record the moments that bring you joy. To do this, it is essential to record pleasant experiences, interesting situations and pleasant encounters. Recording beautiful moments will make you experience and celebrate them even more fully. They will also stay in your memory for longer and be easier to revisit.

Relax and read

Reading is food for the mind. Moments of concentration spent over a book fit perfectly into the philosophy of slow life. It takes your mind off everyday matters and transports you to a 'parallel' world. Reading not only develops the mind and helps to maintain intellectual performance for longer, it also provides an opportunity to relax and relieve stress. It is a good idea to take a book with you to the park, the forest or the garden, or just go out on the balcony with it.

Eat mindfully and savour your meal!

Did you know that it is recommended to chew each bite of food 20-30 times? This is a good way to ensure better digestion and health. But there are other reasons for eating slowly!

Our hectic lifestyles mean that we tend to eat just what we want and how we want it. However, the slow life philosophy says that we should celebrate our meals, savour our food and focus on the experience of eating.

Therefore, when eating:

  • turn off the TV, put down the smartphone
  • sit down to eat in a pleasant environment, e.g. in the garden, on the balcony or in the living room
  • eat quietly, and try to notice the nuances of your meal
  • if you have someone to invite to the table - do it!
Allow yourself to do nothing

There is a huge difference between doing nothing and simply being lazy. We absolutely do not urge you to do the latter, but doing nothing is... something else.

Think about it - when you are meditating, contemplating nature or admiring the blue sky, are you lazy? No kidding! According to the slow life philosophy, every day should be lived in a relaxed way, appreciating the little things and the beauty of the world around you. It is not always possible to avoid the rush, the stress and the excesses. But once the rush is over, it is worth stopping and... doing nothing. Or at least nothing "important".

Doing nothing can be:

  • walking the dog
  • squatting on a park bench
  • taking a nap on the grass
  • contemplating the flowing clouds
  • enjoying the scent of a meadow.

There are MANY ideas for doing nothing!
